Discovering Patrici Park: A Hidden Gem in Drumheller

One of the Partici Park signs. I’m sure there was a better one, I just didn’t take a picture of it. Lol

Our last notable stop in Drumheller was Patricia Park, a quiet green space just a couple of blocks from the downtown core. Despite its proximity to Main Street, the park was very peaceful and truly felt like a hidden gem. I noticed there’s very little information about it online, so hopefully this post will bring some well-deserved attention to this special spot.

Chokecherries growing along the path

The park features a few picnic tables, a small playground for kids, and public washrooms, making it a great place to take a short break. It was the perfect spot to stretch our legs after a day of driving, sightseeing, and sitting for an extended time on the wooden benches at the ballet in the outdoor amphitheatre.

Paved Walking Path or Dirt Trail: Your Choice

A map featured along the paved walking path.

A paved walking and biking path runs along the park, but I chose to follow the narrow dirt path closer to the river, worn in by nature enthusiasts. I wanted to enjoy the local flora and fauna and take in the views of the Red Deer River and the surrounding badlands.

Just a lovely space to ground and be in nature right in the city!

Geocaching

I’m also an avid geocacher, and there were a few caches thoughtfully placed along the pathway. While I had fun finding caches, enjoying the scenery, and getting some light exercise, I stayed mindful of Drumheller’s snakes—especially after noticing notes from other cachers about a sighting near one of the hides. Despite the warnings, I did not see any snakes the day I was there.

We spent just over an hour exploring the park in the early morning, before heading out of town. It was quiet and peaceful, with only a few friendly joggers and cyclists passing by. For a place so close to downtown, it felt surprisingly serene.

Patricia Park was the perfect way to end our time in Drumheller—a quiet walk, beautiful views, and a touch of geocaching adventure.

Next in this series, I’ll share my final post, reflecting on Big Valley and how both the town—and my own life—have changed since my last visit there in 2008.
